Enjoying the Holiday Season: COVID Edition

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… or at least it should be. However, there’s a new sheriff in town and it’s name is Coronavirus. Yes, things will be different this year, but there’s a way to make the most out of the wonderful holiday season without putting yourself or your family/friends at risk.

For a long time Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday, but now that I’ve started adulting Christmas is becoming my favorite holiday. From Christmas decorations in the house, to baking cookies with family, it’s by far one of my favorites. The pandemic will not steal my Christmas like it stole my summer!

Holiday Activities

There are different holiday activities that you still can do. A very popular one has been going to a Christmas lights festival. There are different holiday lights festivals that even offer drive through to keep people socially distanced. However, if you’re a person who stays primarily in the house, I would recommend decorating inside your home to get you in the Christmas spirit. I hope at this point everyone has set up their Christmas trees, but if you have not, now is the time.

Another holiday activity no brainer is watching Christmas movies. I do challenge for the month of December to strictly watch Christmas movies. Some of my favorites are Elf, The Grinch, This Christmas, Four Christmases, and The Best Man Holiday. Yes, some of these movies are very cliche, but you can never go wrong with the classics. I try to watch Christmas movies with family, drinking hot chocolate or coffee and soaking the Christmas spirit in.

Some of my favorite holiday decorations and gift wrapping paper/boxes come from HomeGoods and HomeSense. They have all of my favorite holiday house decor including table runners, reefs, stockings, ornaments and much more. Most stores even have holiday hours so you can get in before the crowd. They usually don’t have trees in store, but local stores like Target, Walmart, or even Amazon has a large selection of Christmas trees.

Safely Sharing the Holidays with Family

As you know the CDC recommends social distancing and following proper safety precautions. However, there are still ways you can celebrate the holidays without putting you or your family at risk

For those currently living at home with family members, you are the chosen ones because it probably won’t make much of a difference for you. Since you’re already living in the same bubble, it shouldn’t affect you. However, people living alone or living away from their family it gets tricky.

I don’t want to tell anyone to spend the holidays alone, but the use of COVID tests or even virtual family gatherings could at least bring some sense of togetherness to the holiday season. Please use your best judgement , we don’t want to continue the spread of the virus.

Happy Holidays from me to you!
